The city hall was designed by architect Martin Nyrop which was inspired by the town hall in Siene in Italy. He won a competition, and the town hall was built from 1892 to 1905.
At the town hall facade you see the golden statue of Absalon just above the balcony and the tall slender tower. City hall tower is one of the tallest buildings in Copenhagen (100 m), and the sound of the big tower clock’s bells is heard every day at 12.00.
Around the hall is the City Council’s meeting hall, wedding hall and the municipal hall.
In the middle of the town hall is City Hall Garden, which is publicly available from H.C.
Andersen’s Boulevard and Vester voldgade.
My own experience: I have often come to the town hall square. During a year, various outdoor activities are held for citizens and foreign guests. However, I have never been inside the city hall.
inde i selve rådhuset.
